Andrea Jiapei Li is a recent graduate from the MFA in Fashion Design and Society program at Parsons the New School of Design, New York. Andrea debuted at New York Fashion Week in 2014 with her Spring/Summer 2015 collection for her namesake women’s wear brand. Andrea’s work focuses on unique silhouettes and creative fabric techniques. Her designs are modern and sporty without sacrificing elegance and femininity. The Spring/Summer 2015 collection features oversized spacemesh tops and bonded mesh tunics. Techniques including bonding and macramé give fabrics unconventional qualities, while oversized silhouettes and use of materials such as neoprene offer sporty wearability. Andrea believes that the role of a fashion designer is not just to design clothes, but also to tell the stories behind the design and convey emotions. Her creative process typically evolves around a theme – it tends to be free-flowing and timeless, hence not constrained by limitations such as current trends.
